Move over boring PB&J’s! Mama has a new lunch idea that involves some favorite foods and bite sized goodness. What do kids love more than the standard peanut butter and jelly? Oh, in this family it comes in the form of a yummy favorite that includes a chocolate goodness we lovingly call Nutella. Mix in a little strawberry jam and our favorite whole grain waffles and you have perfection! Ok, before I get too carried away, it really is a fun remix on the standard lunch box meal. Another factor to consider is that many schools are moving to be “peanut free” which means peanut butter is out the window. Luckily, our school still allows other types of buttery spreads which makes Graham’s heart jump for joy and gives me one more option for the 180 some days his little body will be waking up at the crack of dawn.
But, you just can’t serve these alone right? No, no. We generally offer up a bit of french vanilla yogurt for dipping on the side. Or, if you are Graham, you use your Waffle Sandwich Bites as scoops! Whatever floats your school lunch boat and gets you eating is what I say. We also have to make sure to pack several snacks for the day and after school. What I have found is that separate containers really make all the difference for portion control as well as keeping little fingers from gobbling it all up at once!
One great way we have found to portion out the snacks and lunch is to use different sized Glad Storage Products. Why? Well, they offer up just about every size you could think of, they reduce waste and they are trust worthy! I literally dropped Graham’s yogurt onto the porch and it went crashing down the front steps this afternoon. All was fine and the yogurt stayed in the Storage Container and not on our sidewalk rocks (much to the dog’s dismay). I like pairing the containers together in order to create a little tray and dip section so that Graham can easily find what he needs. There are several different sizes to choose from so you are sure to get exactly what you are looking for. In my opinion, every family should have these sizes on hand: Mini Round, Small Snack, Entree and Tall Entree. We use the Small Snack to fill with carrot sticks or pretzels. The Mini Round is perfect for any dips, yogurts or even grapes you may need to pack. Use the Entree size for regular sandwiches, wraps or the delicious Nutella Waffle Sandwich Bites! The Tall Entree containers are great for myself and my husband so that we can save on calories and money by bringing leftovers to work with us.
Here are our Nutella Waffle Sandwich Bites! They are extremely easy and great for snacks or to replace your standard PB&J.

Thanks Mae!rkI found Lada through Svejk too. The name ‘lada’ gets quite a few people coming to this entry so perhaps he is a little bit better known now.
