Books are my go to gifts whenever I do not know what to buy. Why? Because they are so essential to life! Reading and good books are important parts of your child’s well being, socially, emotionally, and of course, mentally. If you foster a love for reading at an early age the love is sure to stay with your child as they grow. The important thing to remember is to read to them daily and to introduce them to books that are appropriate and entertaining!

When I found Shankman and O’Neill I felt like I had found a lost treasure! I had never heard of them until a few months ago and what they have to offer is worthy of being on a children’s classic list. Trust me, we read a lot of books around here and Shankman and O’Neill are in a league of their own!
We were sent all three of the Shankman and O’Neill current titles: I Met a Moose in Maine One Day, The Boston Balloonies, and The Cods of Cape Cod. First of all, the illustrations that are created by Dave O’Neill are simply magical! Every book has a special quality to it that captures your attention immediately. Graham continues to be mesmerized by the pictures and finds new details every time we read them. I have to say, I enjoy opening the books just as much as he does because I know I will see something I didn’t see the last time I read it. You can keep up with Dave O’Neill at his blog and check out even more of his illustrations.
My favorite book out of the three is I Met a Moose in Maine One Day. It is an adorable story about a little boy who randomly meets a moose in his house. They set out on adventures and find out what a moose is and isn’t good at! It is hilarious and so very sweet at the same time. This book, like all three, has a wonderful rhyming pattern that just rolls off your tongue and tunes your ear in thanks to author Ed Shankman.
Graham’s favorite books are The Boston Balloonies and The Cods of Cape Cod. The Boston Balloonies is a fun story about Balloon people who float all over the city of Boston. I love how it incorporates several different key attractions in Boston like Boston Baked Beans, South Station, and Copley Square. It brought back memories of my trip to Boston this summer. You will even find the Boston Balloonies hanging out at Fenway Park!
These products were provided free of charge by Shankman and O’Neill. These are my honest opinions on the product. I do not post reviews on products I can not stand behind. Please see my Terms of Use for more info.
