If you know me really well you are probably laughing at the title of this post. I am, self-admittedly, late pretty much everywhere I go. It is not something I am proud of and is actually something I am working very hard at changing. Here’s the deal. It all started once I had kids. Sure, before that I wasn’t ever really early, but at least I was on time!
Today I have teamed up with Lance in order to bring you this sponsored post with my tips for how to make school mornings easier. Granted, it is not rocket science, but is a struggle none the less for so many. Even with these tips we still have those mornings. You know the ones. The mornings that end in tears for everyone. Well, here’s to less of those!
DON’T SKIP BREAKFAST, BUT MAKE IT QUICK!
Breakfast truly is the most important meal of the day. This is true for my kids and myself. The mornings I skip breakfast I generally get a headache and start to feel sick. My kids have low energy and are just not themselves. I like to keep breakfast items on hand that are grab-and-go just so we are sure to eat even if we are on the road. Lance Quick Starts are perfect for my crew. Davis already loves Lance Crackers so these were familiar to him. If you’ve never tried them they are very different from just eating regular crackers. They have a thinner, baked whole grain cracker and are filled with flavors like Vanilla Greek Yogurt, Blueberry Muffin, Cinnamon Roll, Everything Bagel and so much more. Whether you are feeling sweet or savory, there is an option for you.
MAKE A CHECK LIST AND PACK
Sometimes we have to make check lists for the mornings. I can’t tell you how many times I stand in the kitchen and go through a mental check list. Guess how many things I miss that way? Yep. At least one! So, I’ve found that making a check list the night before helps me not be so panicked and rushed. As your children grow older this is something you can let them take part in. Maybe they need a checklist for the things they need to pack and remember to take with them. We also try to go ahead and pack as much as we can the night before in order to save that hassle.
SET CLOTHES OUT THE NIGHT BEFORE
This is something I had to start doing years ago because I am notorious for not knowing what to wear or for not doing laundry the night before and having “nothing” to wear. When our mornings started to get extra hectic, I started putting this rule in place for the boys as well. They find what clothes they would like and lay them out in their chairs that night. I even have them find shoes since those are sometimes hard to locate in the hectic mornings.
KEEP A ROUTINE
If you have a routine you are less likely to stress and less likely to forget things. In order to develop a routine it has to become a habit which takes about 2 weeks of repetition. So, don’t give up! Just keep on trying! I remind Davis of the routine for the morning at bedtime. He is so young that he is still trying to figure it out. Graham has been at his routine for several years now, so he is a champ. The boys know to wake up, put clothes on, brush teeth, put shoes on then grab breakfast. We also have a rule where no electronics (TV, Nook, etc) may be turned on until all of this has been accomplished. Really, the TV was bogging us down in the morning. There was just a little too much Curious George happening!

To me, the key for smooth weekday mornings go more smoothly is having a quick and easy breakfast ready that supplies nutrition and energy to hold us until lunch.
