It has been a LONG time since I’ve done Friday 5. I feel like it’s time to bring it back! This week was spring break and I’ve had more time with the family as well as more time to think about this blog and what you guys seem to like. I know I received quite a bit of feedback letting me know that the Friday 5 was a good thing. Well, let’s keep doing it! Because I believe in full disclosure, I purchased all of these products MYSELF except for the movie. I also used an Amazon affiliate link for the movie just in case you want to buy it.
Beachy Waves for Shorter Hair
I recently chopped about 3 inches off my hair. That mess was just getting TOO long! It is always nice to change up your hair, but then you have to change up how you fix it! So, after a few trial and error attempts on making waves in my hair, I stumbled across this tutorial that uses a flat iron. Are you guys intimidated using a flat iron for curls? I was. I have to admit that I am still not 100% comfortable with this method, but it works and it is simple. Make sure you watch the video tutorial and it breaks it all down for you.
Perfect Spring Shade Lipstick
This color might take you a little getting used to, but it is fun and can easily be “tamed” down. I was looking for a color to replace an old favorite that is no longer made and stumbled across this shade on one of my friend’s facebook feed. Well, it must be the most popular shade in all of WNC because I had to order it. The good news is that MAC has free shipping on all orders. The shade is called Girl About Town and it sticks with you most of the day.
Natural Deodorant that Works
Try not to be weirded out by this one. It’s called Schmidt’s Deodorant and it comes in a little pot with a spatula. You scoop out a little, roll it between your fingers until it melts down and then you rub it under your arms. I know, a little unconventional, but this stuff smells great and works! I’ve been on this mission to find a natural deodorant and this one has been the best I’ve found yet. I use the Lavender + Sage.
Instagram’s #Layout App
Just go ahead and forget all of the millions of collage apps you have downloaded on your phone and grab this free one from Instagram. I love the user interface. It is simple, beautiful and fun! You can even make mirror images. Make sure to scroll through the #Layout hashtag in order to see some real beauties. For now, I leave you with myself and my funny little boy.
I remember when I first saw the Broadway version of Into the Woods. I was in love with it and a little disturbed at the same time. Into the Woods takes several famous fairy tales from childhood and smooshes them all together. Of course, there are new spins on it all which you would never expect. Remember how I told you I was on spring break? This was one of the movies I decided to curl up in the bed by myself and watch one afternoon. I love a good musical and I love Disney, so this was a win for me. I wouldn’t suggest it for young kids just because of the way it twists the classics. I know if I watched it as a child I would be scared and/or upset. You can grab this on Blu-ray, DVD or Digital now.
Friday 5 is my favorite kind of post. 🙂 I use a curling iron every day….except this week. Since I’ve been on vacation, I haven’t bothered with my hair. It’s almost a good look on me!
I know what you mean, it’s nice not to have to deal with any kind of iron. I gave my hair a break this week too. I still can’t quite get the hang of the flat iron wave thing, but I’m trying!
I’m really curious about the deodorant. I assume that it doesn’t do anything in the way of antiperspirant?
Melissa,
That is a great question. I have the same dilemma when I am looking at natural deodorants. What I can say is that I am sweating no more than I normally do with traditional deodorant/antiperspirants. I’ve also found that I “smell” less. All in all, it is the best one I have found. Another important thing to do if you are worried about sweating is to make sure you exfoliate under your arms. A lot of times, oil and dirt will clog pores and make it worse. Lemons are also a great natural way to reduce sweat. Just slice one in half and rub under your arms. Weird… but works!
Schmidts is good, but I can’t get my husband to use it. He says it’s “to girly”. we got him Uncle Jack’s which he loves. it’s on amazon
