Finding books for Graham has become a hard task as of late. He is really interested in fact books and so many of the fictional books out there are not exactly positive. Trust me, there are several that I have loved, but Graham keeps going back to the facts. So, when I was introduced to Cottonmouth and the River and the rest of the series I was so excited to share them with Graham.
WHAT ARE THESE BOOKS?
Simply put, the Cottonmouth series of books are a beautiful adventure that shares God’s love for us in a very unique way. Graham is 8 and can read them with no problem on his own. You could easily read them aloud as a family as well. You really need to purchase all three books because trust me when I say that once you complete the first book, you will be ready to dive into the next! We finished the first book yesterday afternoon and Graham looked at me in disbelief and said, “Where are the others?” He quickly grabbed them off the kitchen counter and finished the other two.
Cottonmouth and the River is the first story in the series that takes you on a journey with a boy named Freddie Cottonmouth who lost his parents and a mysterious monster that finds him named Tug. It’s all about a black egg that Freddie finds and a promise that he makes not to eat the egg. In the end, you will have to read the story to see what decisions are made, but the idea is that Tug represents Jesus. Think about what Jesus did for us… gave his life.
COTTONMOUTH AND THE GREAT GIFT
Cottonmouth and the Great Gift starts with Tug coming back to Freddie. The thing is, he can’t stay with him so he sends a little friend. Yellowthroat is a sweet hummingbird that follows Freddie along for his journey. He must take the black egg to a girl with two different colored eyes. Again, he is faced with tough decisions and finds himself in harms way. In this particular book, Yellowthroat is a symbol for the Holy Spirit.
Don’t worry, this last book is not as dreary as the title may make it sound. This is the end because Freddie has come a long way, finally finds the girl and even more! I adore how this last book brings it all together and shares the beautiful story of what Jesus did for us and how God is with us all the way. You will have to read it in order to get all the details!
These paperback books can be purchased for about $7-$8 from Amazon. They are well worth every single penny! What a great birthday gift or special occasion idea.

I love the illustrations, and my son Mica loves to read. He’d totally get into them. I think Isaak will like to read really soon. He said in his letter for the upcoming school year that his goal was to, “Rede better”. LOL Rede = Read.

These books sound awesome! I love how they seem to have some adventure and suspense yet also show God’s love. I have the same troubles with my son being interested in books, but I can see him loving these! 🙂

Thanks for sharing a good find – I agree that there’s a lot out there that is not desirable. So good to know that someone is writing quality content!
