Around These Parts: Hip Hop, Construction & a Parenting Hack

Davis, being the explorer that he is, decided that enough was enough during that very long competition day and we set off exploring.  We found a crane, cool art and 2 bridges.  I love his spirit of taking in all that is around him.  He truly has a heart to understand others and is my social butterfly.  Learning his energy is something that changes every day.  I try my best to keep up!

Live in a place as gorgeous as WNC and you have things like the Biltmore Estate at your finger tips.  The other photos were taken at a local community college.  We are surrounded by beauty!  However, take two little boys to the Biltmore for an afternoon of sun and what do you end up with?  2 Nehi’s and a lot of staring at construction equipment.  Barnyard?  No.  Playground. For a minute.  Ice cream. Maybe.  Want to look at the construction going on.  ALL. DAY.

I guess I am reminded every day that just when I think I have it all figured out with my kids, something changes.  It’s like we are constantly doing this dance of learning each other.  Working with teens and their parents in the school only goes to solidify my point.  We are all changing beings.  “What can I do to help them.  What else can we do about this situation?” These are questions I am asked constantly.  I believe it all boils down to LOVE THEM.  Really love them by supporting, listening, playing, and offering boundaries.  Let’s face it, raising kids is not easy and there will be new and added pressures in each season of life.  All we can do is try out best to love, point them towards Jesus and then faithfully let them fly on their own.

Love you guys!

He did a nice job with the costume he created.
Your words resonate truth. When my boys were younger, I had all these dreams and knew just how they’d behave when they were older and what would interest them. I couldn’t have been further from the truth. The only thing we can do is love them, regardless of where life leads them.

Thank you, Terra. He was very proud of that costume.

It’s so true that we just have no idea. God gives us these little souls to guide and love. I’m trying my best to encourage them, set boundaries and not break spirits!
