I am no professional when it comes to makeup, but I do love to experiment and learn new techniques. Over the course of helping others with makeup, I have figured out that there are a few tips and tricks that not everyone knows and several mistakes that are commonly made. One of those is how to use a beauty blender type sponge.
WHAT IS A BEAUTY BLENDER SPONGE
Typically, it is a foam sponge that is used to apply makeup (liquid or powder) that is shaped like an egg. There are definitely variations as some have a slanted tip and others have a pointed tip, but generally, they all do the same thing.
2 MISTAKES YOU ARE MAKING WITH YOUR BEAUTY BLENDER SPONGE
- Using it dry. Probably the biggest mistake I see is using the sponge dry. You should run it under cold water until it doubles in size and then squeeze out the excess in a towel. This allows you to move more product around without wasting it. If a sponge is dry, any of your liquid make up is going to be soaked up into the sponge. This also allows for a more flawless finish.
- Swiping it on your skin. To achieve the best results, make sure you are bouncing the product on and into your skin. Swiping it across will not only waste product, but it can also enhance your pores and fine lines. Bouncing the sponge gives you the most airbrushed like finish.
Also, keep in mind that you can use your beauty blender sponge to apply powders as well! Yes, you still use it damp. I typically pour some of my loose powder out into the lid and tap the sponge into it. It’s actually my preferred method of applying loose powder.
