Being a school counselor means trying to make it work in a small space that sometimes has students packed in! I am the type of person that can’t function well in clutter and my mind works better when things look neat and fun. I have been a longtime fan of Uncommongoods for such a long time. They truly have some of the most adorable and unique finds. So, I decided to spruce up my office with a few of their fun finds.
I work in a STEM themed high school (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). The kids at my school are so unique and fun. Because I am a counselor, I like to keep little gadgets around for them to fidget with. So, when I stumbled upon the Periodic Table Building Blocks they went into my cart first thing! I also had to get the Playable Art Ball because it was way too cool to pass up. These two items have received a ton of attention over the past two days that they have been on the table. Not to mention, they are so colorful that they really make those whiteish/gray walls a little more cheery! Also, every counseling office has to have pens available for parents and students. That adorable percy the pencil porcupine was the perfect fit!
This year there’s a bit of a cactus theme going on in my office. I loved a free printable that I downloaded about being kind to yourself and loved the message behind the cactus. Life is hard enough on each of us as it is (full of thorns) so let’s give ourselves a little grace! So when I found the adorable little cork cactus storage I knew that had to be a part of the office. It definitely had a home. I also found the perfect spot for the cute little DIY Cinema Lightbox! I adore being able to change up the letters and it is also fun for the students. Because it is battery operated I can even get away with letting it be lit up in my office. I call all of this a win! If you love DIY and all things crafty, you may want to check out the different craft kits available at Uncommongoods.
There were so many cool and truly “uncommon” finds from Uncommondgoods that I spent a full week looking through the site for the perfect items. I loved the ideas for baby gifts and baby shower gifts since I have a few of those coming up from friends.
Now, if you want my unsolicited advice on a few plants you can keep alive in only artificial light those two above are doing great! The one to the left is a snake plant (you pretty much neglect it for best results) and the one on the right is a pothos plant that I re-rooted. Generally the pothos only needs water once a week.
So, what are your ideas for a cheery and bright, modern office?

I wouldn’t be surprised if kids hang out in your office. Looks like they’ll have fun!
