I shutter at the word laundry. Cold chills. Truly, I have been putting off writing this post for the fact that laundry is not something I even want to think about. But, I do have several shortcuts that I have learned along the way that help and work for our family. Will they work for your family? Hmmm. If you love to iron, starch, and fold neatly then probably not. I’m just being real here.
So, here is my laundry plan so that I am not found unconscious in the laundry room amongst the towels:
Throw and Go
You laundry sorting types are not going to like this so just go ahead and turn your heads. Guess what? I use my washer as a hamper. Uh huh. I sure do! What happens when Davis spills juice on his pants for the 45th time that day? It goes straight into the open washer with his other shorts and the dish towels I used that morning while cleaning off the smeared jelly from the table. I just toss everything in and when it is full I turn it on and leave it! I am not complete reckless abandon when it comes to the laundry. I do have a few standards that consist of keeping my whites and fancy”ish” things separate and safe. I also take advantage of the FanFresh technology that my Whirlpool Duets have. Basically I just press a button and my load will tumble for up to 12 hours so that my clothes are less like mildew and more like mountain fresh when I remember to dry them. “Remember” being the key word here. I honestly do not know what I did before the FanFresh button. It is my tiny best friend. I don’t even have to worry about putting detergent in because of the Precision Dispense. I just fill the cartridge and it automatically senses and dispenses the exact amount of detergent for my load. Not only does it save me time, but it is saving us money!
Laundry Speed Game
Quick! How fast can we throw these clothes into piles that make sense and fold them? What, that seam doesn’t match up to the other? It’s ok because you are going to pull it out of the drawer and wear it tomorrow and I am going to have to wash it and repeat this insane process once more. It is a vicious cycle really. I’ve been trying to encourage my husband to just wear the same pair of pants all week. He isn’t buying it. Ok, I don’t want my people wearing dirty clothes, but I do not expect perfection when folding clothes. We just see how fast we can do it and call it done! DONE! Making my life even quicker is the Whirlpool Duet Dryer. It has Advanced Moisture Sensing so that when my clothes are dry the cycle ends. I am not waiting around for clothes that were dry 15 minutes ago (you know what I’m talking about if you have an old dryer).
Little Helpers are My Favorites
The boys are getting old enough to help. I have a few friends who will not let their children touch the laundry because they will “mess it up”. I say, let them mess it up as long as they are going to put it away in the correct place. Graham is 5 and has gotten really good at putting away his clothes, but when he was three the clothes that I folded usually ended up in a scattered mess in his drawers. Ask yourself what is most important in this case and go with it. For me it was having help and teaching my child about doing things for himself. Believe me, it will get better as they get older. Davis also likes to help. It generally involves unfolding what I just folded and placing it on my bed. You know what? It really does help because he moves things closer to the drawers! I just go with it. The Whirlpool Duet features their own little hidden helpers. They are saving me a ton in energy costs. The washer uses 83% less water and 85% less energy. The combined lifetime savings for these two is averaged to be over $3K!
So what are your simple laundry tips? Please do not tell me to iron as soon as you remove the clothes from the dryer. I’m just not going to do it. You wouldn’t want me to. Honest.
I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Whirlpool and received a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.
