Having a 7 year-old in the house is exciting and challenging for so many reasons, but one of the things I love the most about this age is their curiosity for reading and learning. It has been pure joy watching Davis become an independent reader and learn to love what he is reading. So, today we are sharing another favorite from the Elephant & Piggie Like Reading! Series called It’s Shoe Time by Bryan Collier. For fans of Mo Willems’ Elephant & Piggie, be sure to check out this new series in which Elephant and Piggie introduce you to their own favorite new reads! There are four books out so far in the series, each from a different childrens’ book creator, and this newest one from Bryan Collier is fantastic.
If you have been reading along here for the past few months, we have been sharing several of the books from Mo Willems that are great for beginning readers. You can find all of our posts and craft ideas here:

IT’S SHOE TIME
It’s Shoe Time by Bryan Collier has been a fun read for Davis. He loves to comment on how he sometimes doesn’t even match his socks! This sweet little story features a little girl who is going out to spend time with her dad. She needs to find the perfect pair of shoes. All of the shoes in her closet have a dialogue that is cute and quirky and in the end you will be surprised by which pair she chooses. The shoes are definitely surprised! This precious story opens up the door for asking so many questions to get young readers thinking. It also has great illustrations and simple and fun words so that kids feel confident.
SIMPLE SHOE LACE BRACELET
In keeping with the theme of this adorable new Elephant & Piggie Like Reading! book, we have put together a simple tutorial for kids. If you have an older child they will be able to accomplish this craft alone. Younger kids will need a little extra help with the dexterity. In the end, you will have fun bracelets to mix and match and share with friends.
Follow the pictures below in order to create your knot and then braid the bracelet. Once you are finished you can tie it off and then tie the ends together around your wrist. This simple shoe lace craft takes about 2-5 minutes to complete!
