Let’s Make North Carolina #1 in Laundry Safety!

October 29, 2013 by Felicia

North Carolina may be dead last in teacher salary growth, but it is not too late for us to be #1 in laundry safety and it is a quick pledge (plus you could win $2500)!  Currently California, Florida and Texas have the lead in the ACI’s KEY Pledge laundry safety campaign.  We all serve an important role in laundry safety, but I would love to see my home state take the lead.  We can do it NC!

take the key pledge

Being a part of this sponsored KEY Pledge campaign with ACI (American Cleaning Institute) has really opened up my eyes to ways I can make simple changes around my home, especially when it comes to laundry safety and what I can do to keep my family clean and safe.

I had the opportunity to speak with ACI KEY Pledge spokesperson and child safety expert Kimberlee Mitchell recently; the conversation included other mom bloggers and was extremely enlightening and refreshing.

It was great to hear her say that our gate on the laundry room was a good idea.  Kimberlee actually made a great point about the gate.  By us having it up, it sends a message that the laundry room is off limits and not a play area.  That really hit home for me and made me think about the messages we send to our kids every day by the simple actions we take.

During the discussion, we also talked about the importance of keeping the single-load liquid laundry packet container in a cabinet out of reach and after using, immediately closing the lid and putting the packet container back in the cabinet.

Having a mindful laundry routine and constantly keeping the packets out of the reach of children is a huge part of the KEY Pledge campaign.  Educating others in your home was the next thing we spoke about.  One of the bloggers had an older son who does his own laundry and she had the conversation with him about the importance of keeping things like single-load liquid laundry packets out of reach of little ones.  I also think it is equally as important to have that conversation with other caregivers in your home (grandparents, babysitters, etc).

Each laundry packet contains highly-concentrated detergent and needs to be treated like any household cleaner.  It’s important to educate others to store them out of reach and sight to avoid attracting curious interest from young children that can result in unintended ingestion or exposure to the eyes.  We all play an important role in laundry safety and educating others is such an important part of the process.

Kimberlee has also been collaborating with the ACI on a laundry safety video series which will be rolled out over the next couple of months.  Watch video #1 and learn whether you do your laundry in a laundry room or a Laundromat, there are about important safety tips to keep top of mind when using, storing and handling single-load liquid laundry packets: http://www.cleaninginstitute.org/clean_living/safe_laundry_room.aspx

Take the KEY Pledge and Win $2,500*

  • In order to help raise awareness about proper usage, storage, and handling of single-load laundry packets, ACI has developed the KEY Pledge.  Starting now, you can take the pledge and share the message with family and friends that they are the KEY to a safe laundry room and routine.

  • Keep single-load liquid laundry packets out of reach of children

  • Educate your family and friends about the safe use and storage of the single load laundry packets

  • You serve a key role in laundry safety

Every pledge made will be entered into a sweepstakes* to win a $2,500 gift card in order to makeover your laundry room.

How about you: Do you use single-load laundry packets?  I encourage you to take the KEY Pledge and help us spread the word about laundry safety today!

This is part of a sponsored campaign with ACI.  All of the opinions and ideas are my own.
