How to Create Stand Out Graphics for Your Website Using Your iPhone

June 24, 2014 by Felicia

Looking back at pictures and graphics I created for this website over the past 6 years is hilarious.  I’m sure I had the best of intentions and I definitely had limited resources, but it is amazing what a little time will do for you.  Today I want to share with you a simple way you can create stand out graphics for your blog or website just by using your iPhone, your current pictures and a little creativity.

First of all, you need to download the Retromatic app from the app store.  It’s $1.99 and worth it for creating graphics.  I purchased mine last year and have not really used it to its full potential.  It has the ability to let you isolate an image and pull it out of the photograph in order to use it in many different ways.  There are overlays, backgrounds, text editing and more so that you can create a stand out graphic for many different uses.

Secondly, you need to find an image or take a picture that you want to use a portion of.  In this instance I choose a photo I took of Davis from the Bass Pro Shop.  He was standing on the rim of the rocks that are in front of the large aquarium of fish (I know, I know… no kids standing on the rocks).

Third, you are going to select your photo in Retromatic.  Hold your finger down where you want to start drawing and start outlining your image.  You want to color “red” anything you want to stay.  For this image I just wanted Davis standing on the rocks and not the background of the fish.  Once you have it the way you like it hit the arrow button on the top right and start experimenting with backgrounds, layovers and text.

Next, you are going to select a background that works for what you are trying to create.  I wanted an image that would work well with words or just a statement piece.  I saved a version with a blank background as well as one with a heart.  Now I can use the blank background and change up the text if need be as well as use the one I originally created with the heart.

There are so many other apps that are great for creating graphics.  I think it is important to occasionally browse to see what is new and upcoming.  Anything to make life simple and save money along the way is a plus for me!  What apps do you currently use to help create stand out graphics for your blog or photography?

Not a blogger or website owner?  This idea is useful for you too!

I have used this process to create stunning photography gifts for family members in the past.  I’ve also used it to create birthday invites and many other things.  Really, your imagination is the only limit!  This would be a great idea for Mother’s or Father’s Day gifts and use a quote or special phrase from the child as the text in the background.

Pretty impressive that you can do all this on your phone! So many people only access the internet through their phones nowadays instead of having home internet access.

I agree that it’s good to keep up to date on what’s new or trending. Graphics can make a world of difference too (good or bad).

Retromatic does all the hard work and the user looks like the pro. I love your suggestion to create invitations (they’re so expensive in the store), and I can personalize them.
