A few years back I sat in an airport headed for Atlanta. Behind me was a man with a guitar and he said something that made my ears perk up, “Have you ever heard of the Pete the Cat books?” he said. I instantly turned around and inserted myself right into the conversation happening between the two people behind me. Now that I look back on it, it was probably so rude! However, he was telling the lady beside him that he helped write the music that went with the first four books. His name was Michael Levine and we ended up talking about Pete the Cat the entire time up until boarding because my youngest son is a huge fan!
So, when I found out about the new book by Eric Litwin, the author of the Pete the Cat Books, I was so excited to check it out with Davis. Groovy Joe: Ice Cream and Dinosaurs is perfect for kids who are just learning how to read due to the repetition. Repetition is so important to learning as well as the pictures. Davis has gotten to where he can just about read this one all by himself due to memorization. The rhyming and rhythm also helps with the learning. Groovy Joe not only teaches about manners, but it talks about sharing and makes it fun! Besides, who wouldn’t want to pull up a chair and put on a bib to share ice cream with a dinosaur? Make sure you download the free song from the scholastic website so that you can groove along with Groovy Joe!
