As of late, it seems like my little boys are growing into little men. I often look back on those Facebook memories that pop up of those chubby little faces and wonder where all of the time has gone. One thing is generally a constant as I look back and that is the boys outdoors. No matter how old they get I want them to know and cherish moments outside, to seek adventure and to love the world God created for them.
So, when I was presented with the idea of My Gnome on the Roam® I was instantly intrigued. This is not another toy or craft box for your kids to do and grow tired of, this is a way to experience and explore the world around you in a different and creative way. It is way to create enthusiasm for our wonderful world and to share that enthusiasm with others in the hopes that they are inspired to get out on their own adventures.
ADVENTURE IN A SUITCASE
Gustav the Gnome comes to you in his suitcase along with a notebook, the book and a wooden pen. Gustav is vinyl and ready to be painted or drawn on in your child’s own imaginative take. You can use sharpies or any other color medium you would like. Davis and I found that using a crayon meant it was going to wipe right off so he opted for paint and then we clear coated it. You can also name your Gnome so that he is completely original to your child.
THE EXPERIENCE
After your Gnome is decorated the best part comes! You take your Gnome with you everywhere, explore and create new adventures. You can document where you’ve been by capturing pictures of your Gnome and uploading to social media using #mygnomeontheroam. You can then see where other gnome’s adventures have taken them.
THE ANTI-APP
My Gnome on the Roam® also has an app. Now, before you start to get all cynical about how if this is an outdoor adventure tool, why is there an app, you need to know that this app is strictly to help spawn new ideas for adventures. As soon as the app loads you are offered an inspirational activity (ex. Tell your child a story about something that happened at school when you were their age.). You can complete this activity with your child as well as save notes about your experience in the journal within the app. Your child can log all of his or her adventures in the physical notebook and even attach a photo of their Gnome on the adventure. I love the idea that there is a physical notebook that allows your child to 1. practice writing, 2. be creative, 3. create an actual scrapbook!
So, what are you waiting for? Your Gnome is waiting on your and he is ready to roam! What a great idea for those birthday parties we are all invited to or upcoming Christmas. $29.97.
