Hey there ya’ll! Long time no talk to! I am trying to join the land of living as it has been a VERY eventful beginning of the year. I feel so disconnected from you guys here on the blog, but thank you so much for keeping up with me over on Instagram the past few months. This post is not about what all has been going on, but if you haven’t seen, let’s just say that Davis has been very sick, had surgery and is hopefully on the mend. On top of all of that it is the busiest month to be a high school counselor.
With all of that being said, I am so excited that we have seen some higher temps this past week. We are in WNC, so those temps will go back down, but it has been a nice taste of the coming spring and reminder of how nice it feels to get outdoors. Quite honestly, I feel like God gave us the sun in order to kill all of the terrible flu germs that have been attacking our area. I hope you and yours have been healthy and happy.
BOOK BUNDLE!
Today Davis received the best book bundle in the mail from Downtown Bookworks. We received PBS Kids Look and Learn Birds, Science with Stuff: Bird-Acious, Into the Field Guide: A Walk in the Woods and Into the Field Guide: A Walk on the Beach. It was about 70 degrees today so we put it all to use (well, minus the beach guide). Davis immediately got the binoculars out and started looking for birds with his guidebook. Later, we had fun dissecting the owl pellet. Did you know an owl pellet is actually owl throw up? I did, but only because I work in a high school where they dissect these things and then put the bones together that they find to make the animal the owl ate. Yep. They do that!
Now, I’m not saying that you need these books and these guides in order to get outdoors with your kids, but I am saying that it makes it even more fun and gives you things you can talk about. Davis even has a little bag and collection jar so that he can check out all of his finds. His latest, a pet spider. Yes, we have been googling “what do wolf spiders eat?”. Who wants to help me catch live ants? What? No one?!

We love to go down to the wildlife area by us and look for deer and turkeys. We have so much fun watching for birds…and looking at footprints in the snow trying to figure out what they are! In the summer months…we raise monarchs to release! Last year we raised and released 621! Was so beautiful watching each one soar!
