Celebrating 10 Years of Elephant & Piggie + DIY Elephant and Pig Lanterns {GIVEAWAY}

Celebrating 10 Years of Elephant & Piggie

Yesterday, amongst the sound of the locust, we had a little party.  It was a small party that represented two very important characters in they boys reading lives.  These two little fellas are celebrating 10 years of existence and we made sure to celebrate them “reading style”.  Happy 10 Years Elephant & Piggie!
Elephant & Piggie

This duo has been a fan favorite, especially when first learning how to read.  The Elephant & Piggie Like Reading! series has been great for Davis.  The recently added a new book to the line up that is hilarious and catchy to read, The Good for Nothing Button.  Davis gets a kick out of this book as well as the button that was sent our way (who do I thank for that?!).  But truly, if you have a new reader in your home make sure you check out: We Are Growing and The Cookie Fiasco as well.  All of the books in the Elephant & Piggie Like Reading! series will inspire beginning readers to practice, practice, practice!

DIY Elephant and Pig lanterns

At our sweet little party we exchanged gifts (Elephant & Piggie books of course) as well as made these super cute Elephant & Piggie lanterns!  Do you want to make your own?  Well, just download the template here: Elephant & Piggie Lantern templates.

Overall, it was a fun day of reading in the sunshine on the swing.  What more could a little boy or girl ask for?  Let’s be honest, what more could any of us ask for than a lazy day outdoors with a good book.

    Our favorite way to celebrate reading is by making it fun by reading in different places of the house or even outside. We also make it fun by creating a reward system and earning a special treat based on number of books read.

    My favorite part about this setup is how understated it is. I love that. I’ve never been a fan of parties that just punch me in the face with a million decorations. You have enough here to make it fun but not so many that it’s hard to look at.

    My boys love going to the library and picking out their books themselves. They always participate in the summer reading program for prizes. Our ritual is library and then ice cream every week. It makes it fun for them.

    I read on trips. It kept the boys quiet, so Travis could drive peacefully. The boys loved it.

    This would be great for my younger nephews. How fun!

    We celebrate reading with rewards when we are done with a book. A lot of my older daughter’s books have movies made out of them (she loves American Girl). We don’t watch the movie till we are done with the book, and when we do we make an event out of it with pizza and popcorn 🙂

    I sign my kids up for various reading programs through the year. Right now they are in the middle of three and about to start a third. Being a single mom, I find sources like these to help out. I am very blessed that they love reading.
