When it comes to beauty products and women, we are all so different. Some of us adore putting on makeup while the others of us try to keep it as simple as possible. I am definitely one who falls on the simple side (surprised, right… ha) but there are a few key products that I really must have. I would venture to say that mascara would be one makeup item that is on most every girl’s list of must haves. I have tried many different brands over the years and have found there are several that are better than others, but the real issue is learning how to apply mascara correctly. If you can figure out how to master this makeup trick, you will find yourself in love with your lashes. Guess what? It is simple and it is a question I am asked pretty frequently, so here it goes…
First of all, you need to start with a quality mascara that is free of clumps and is in date! Yes, make sure to check the date on your mascara if there is one. Also, if you know that it has been hanging around in your makeup bag for about 6 months then it is past time to throw it out! You really should only keep mascara around for about 3 months. Remember, you are putting this stuff on your eyes. They are important and sensitive and you want to take care of them.
That is where Studio 10 comes in and why I am so excited that this UK favorite is now going to be available here in the states on b-glowing.com. The new Studio 10 6-in-1 Perfect Lash Mascara works like a dream. I love the way the brush is flat and angled so that I can really get to the roots of my lashes without poking my eye or smudging. I am also usually not a fan of putting mascara on the lower lashes. Well, that has all changed now that I’ve been using the comb that is on the other end of the wand. It works perfectly for delicately putting mascara on the lower lashes without them looking wild and without the bottom of my eyes becoming black. It is just really well engineered. Beyond the engineering of the brush, the product is phenomenal. It is packed with so many different things that are so good for the health of your lashes and the overall application of the product. I am loving the Argan Oil because my lashes feel more hydrated. Jojoba Oil helps with shine while the Jojoba Gel helps with application = no clumping. While I have naturally long lashes, 6-in-1 Perfect Lash Mascara is also infused with Capixyl® to encourage growth and Widelash™ for length and volume.
Now that you have the right mascara and you’ve made sure it is not old, It is time to grab a mirror and look down (just like the very first picture on this post). That’s right! For so long I was looking straight into a mirror to apply mascara. Well, the trick is if you have a small mirror under you and look down to apply the mascara a few things magically happen. First of all, you are going to have less of a chance of smudging on your upper eyelid. Secondly, you can see to get to the very root of your lashes (which is where you always need to start). Finally, you can take your time working up your lashes when you are in this position. Gravity is working for you and not against you.
ROOTS AND WIGGLE
You have your mascara, you have your handheld mirror and you are ready to go. Well, where do you start? You start at your roots or the base of your lashes and WIGGLE your way up! You will want to do this about three times (inside, middle, outside). Work your way from the inside out and take your time so that you cover all of the lashes. Wiggling the brush a little from side to side will help you cover more area as well as separate as you go. If you want to add a little more length or drama, take a little extra time at the outer tip of your lashes. If you pull up slowly and blink down slowly at the same time, you can create an even longer look. The key is to focus on the outer edge and to grab it before the mascara starts to dry. Keep moving your mascara wand up until it has completely left your lashes. If you want to cover your lower lashes, do so very carefully! Again, I never really liked the look until the Studio 10 mascara because the little comb does the trick so well. The key is to just “dust” over your lower lashes in a side-to-side sweeping motion. The comb in the Studio 10 mascara makes this process flawless in my opinion.
And there you have it! You have correctly applied your mascara and it didn’t take you all day.
