5 On-the-Go Breakfast Ideas for Back to School

August 10, 2015 by Felicia

5 on-the-go breakfast ideas for back to school. Honey Bunches of Oats Breakfast BiscuitsDisclosuregraphiccompensationIn Just a few short weeks the back to school madness begins for this family.  I am not one of those moms that looks forward to summer ending.  I really do love the freedom that it affords us and, well, let’s be honest, I like to sleep in!  However, I have the same schedule as my kids since I work in the school system myself so that means we all have to wake up early and get ready in a hurry.  Over the years I have prided myself in figuring out breakfast in a hurry.  With that said, here are 5 on-the-go breakfast ideas for back to school!

HONEY BUNCHES OF OATS BREAKFAST BISCUITS

Some mornings we are truly struggling, you know the ones I’m talking about.  When you wake up late, rush through a shower and hang your head out the window for it to dry.  That.  That kind of morning.  When those happen it is absolutely necessary to have something you can just grab quickly without any thought.  I love keeping the new Honey Bunches of Oats Breakfast Biscuits on hand for those occasions.  And really, the boys raid the cabinets for these in the afternoon for snacks.  They love them and I am happy!  I enjoy the Chocolate Chip variety with my coffee in the morning.  The Strawberry is a close second for me.  They are made from 100% whole grain which means you and your guys will stay fuller longer.  That is always a plus when you have busy days!Honey Bunches of Oats Breakfast Biscuits

YOGURT

Yogurt is such a great choice in the morning for staying full.  Here’s a quick tip for saving money and time.  Buy a larger tub of yogurt and divide it out for the week into travel containers.  You can place these in lunch boxes or have it ready to grab for once you arrive at work.  The key is planning ahead a little and having everything portioned out.

MICROWAVEABLE EGGS

Did you know you could microwave your eggs?  This has been such a great trick for us in the mornings.  Just spray down a bowl or microwaveable mug with cooking spray, crack an egg or two inside, add a splash of milk, salt and pepper and mix.  Pop it in the microwave for about 45 seconds and you can take your eggs on the road!

FRUIT

I know it sounds simple, but never underestimate nature’s candy (as my husband likes to call it).  The boys love grapes and bananas.  You can always grab a banana, apple or pear for the road or chop up your bananas and grapes and a dash of lemon and save it in the refrigerator.  In the morning you have a zesty little fruit salad waiting for you!

SMOOTHIES

If you are driving down the road then you know how hard it is to eat and drive!  Smoothies are a great answer as long as you prepare them ahead of time.  I love to take a few fruits, cut them, place them in a freezer bag and freeze them overnight.  It the morning the only prep you have is to get out the blender, pop in the fruit, add a little milk or yogurt and you are done.  I also love using cocoa powder with bananas and yogurt in order to get my chocolate fix for the day!  Just remember, the fruit works best frozen.

What are your go-to breakfasts when it comes to back to school and having no time?

Ours hasn’t been a particularly busy summer so I’m thinking of how I can squeeze in as much as I can int he next couple weeks. I keep easy to eat snacks and meals like this at my desk so I don’t have to waste time with dishes, a microwave or running out

We do a lot of organic frozen waffles, scrambled eggs and of course cereal during school days. I would be interested in trying these breakfast biscuits since I love Honey Bunches of Oats cereals.

I had no idea that Honey Bunches of Oats Breakfast Biscuits were out there! I will have to look for these on my next shopping trip. I like grab and go type of stuff as I’m single and no kids so anything that gets me out the door faster is perfect. I can eat it during my commute LOL 🙂

My oldest loves eggs for breakfasts, so the microwave scrambled eggs has been a lifesaver during the school year. So easy to make for him, add some toast and fruit and he’s set!

My kids have to wake up so early because they are really slow in the mornings. But being tired makes them even slower. I need more quick breakfasts like these to make the whole process easier.

We have to get kiddo up earlier this year since 5th gr starts jr. high where we live. They start a little earlier than the elementary. Since I work from home, I am not in a rush to get out the door, too. So, breakfast can be done – I hope!

I love smoothies, why? Because my youngest will eat them and he is so picky so I have to sneak in his nutrients!
